Famous places finder.
A web app that finds well-known places near any location you search for, built on the Google location API with React and Node.js.
The problem
Finding what is worth seeing around an unfamiliar place usually means jumping between maps, search results and travel sites.
The approach
A React and Bootstrap 5 frontend takes a place name, and a Node.js backend calls the Google location API to geocode it and return notable places nearby, ranked and shown with their details.
The engineering challenge
Turning a free-text place into reliable coordinates, then querying and presenting nearby results quickly while keeping the API key on the server.
What this represents
A working location search app that was deployed for public use in 2021. The source is on GitHub.
