Glycemic Spy: a GI and GL food database.
Software for a published research study that tabulated the glycemic index and glycemic load of foods commonly eaten in Sri Lanka.
The problem
GI and GL values for regularly consumed Sri Lankan foods were scattered across studies, making them hard for consumers and researchers to use.
The approach
Designed a GI and GL database and built the application around it in Java with SQL, so values could be searched, compared and extended as new data arrived.
The engineering challenge
Modelling foods, servings and measurements consistently enough to support both quick lookups and research queries.
What this represents
A database useful to both consumers and researchers, supporting a published research paper.
